Acetylcholinesterase activity in copepods (Tigriopus brevicornis) from the Vilaine River estuary, France, as a biomarker of neurotoxic contaminants ArchiMer
Forget, Joelle; Beliaeff, Benoit; Bocquene, Gilles.
From April 1997 to June 1998, 14 measurements of acetylcholinesterase (AChE) enzymatic activity were performed with the copepod, Tigriopus brevicornis, collected at five stations in the Vilaine River estuary (South Brittany, France). Simultaneously, four chemical analyses of triazines and one analysis of total pesticides in water were undertaken. AChE activity levels in T brevicornis were compared to the levels measured at a reference site not exposed to effluents from Vilaine River. Results reveal significant differences between AChE activity levels depending on location of stations in the plume of the river with an increasing gradient of activity from the upstream to the downstream stations, thus indicating that neurotoxic contaminants are mainly brought...

Essential oil of Tagetes filifolia against the four beetle Tribolium castaneum and its relation to acetylcholinesterase activity and lipid peroxidation Agriscientia (Córdoba)
Olmedo,R; Herrera,J.M; Lucini,E.I; Zunino,M.P; Pizzolitto,R.P; Dambolena,J.S; Zygadlo,J.A.
The development of natural insecticides would help to decrease the negative impact of synthetic insecticides. Fumigant toxicity of essential oil of Tagetes filifolia Lag (Asterales: Asteraceae) and its major compounds were evaluated against Tribolium castaneum Herbst (Coleoptera: Tenebrionidae). The essential oils were analyzed by gas chromatography-mass spectrometry. The essential oil and (E)-anethole were the most toxic at 24 h against adult insects (CL50 = 2.4 y 2.6 µL/mL water, respectively). Changes in the products of lipid peroxidation were evidenced by an increase in malondialdehyde content. Acetylcholinesterase activity in vitro, of T. castaneum adults, was also reported. (E)-anethole and estragole showed similar acetylcholinesterase inhibition (54...

Status and preliminary mechanism of resistance to insecticides in a field strain of housefly (Musca domestica, L) Rev. Bras. entomol.
Li,Qingfeng; Huang,Jianbo; Yuan,Jianzhong.
ABSTRACT Resistance profiles of houseflies (Gol-RR) collected from a field in Golmud city, Qinghai province, China, were determined for seven insecticides using topical bioassays. Resistance ratios of >1219.51, 153.17, >35.43, 6.12, 3.24, 1.73, and 0.86-fold were obtained for propoxur, cypermethrin, imidacloprid, indoxacarb, chlorpyrifos, fipronil, and chlorfenapyr, respectively, relative to a laboratory susceptible strain (SS). Synergism experiments showed that piperonyl butoxide (PBO), triphenylphosphate (TPP), and diethyl maleate (DEM) increased propoxur toxicity by >105.71, >7.88, and >5.15-fold in the Gol-RR strain, compared with 5.25, 2.00, and 1.39-fold in the SS strain, indicating the involvement of P450 monooxygenases, esterases,...
